When I first arrived at Kim & Bae, I was half nervous and half excited. Although I have visited Washington D.C. before, I’ve never been to New Jersey and I have only briefly visited New York. I was nervous in a sense that I didn’t know if I would be able to survive a life in a law firm in U.S., and excited in a sense that I got to start a new life in a new place.

To describe a little what is expected of internship at Kim & Bae,

First, work wise- I mainly assisted in the litigation department, and helped with translations, drafting mails, sometimes drafting divorce pleadings, phone calls to courts and various places, etc. If you are interning for only a few months, you may not have enough time to learn everything but if you are staying for long term, I encourage you to ask the attorneys/staff and learn different things that you can help them with.

Also, there are many things you can do after work and in the weekend. I have noticed that a lot of people come with a guide book introducing various places in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and Bronx. Depending on your interest area, you can do lots of things here as New York is one of the most interesting and dynamic place in the east cost. You could read books at library, go to a café, go to restaurants, go to a museum, go shopping or if you are like someone I know and like to bar hop on the weekends you could do that too.

Personally what I liked the most to do if I was in New Jersey was to go to Garden State Plaza and eat almond pretzel at Wetzel’s Pretzel and drink chai latte at Aroma Espresso while looking at stores. If I was in Manhattan, I liked to just walk to different places, including 5th avenue.

Lastly, you shouldn’t miss various events at Kim & Bae. Kim & Bae has fundraising/firm party around Thanksgiving, and Christmas event at the end of the year. Also dinner parties at Mr. Kim & Ms. Bae’s house are not to be missed.

I do not know how your life at Kim & Bae will pan out, but I truly hope that you can make the best out of your internship here.
