[NYT]Manhattan: Slander suit over dog meat settled

A slander lawsuit accusing a local television station of defaming a Korean couple by reporting that they sold dog meat for Asian cuisine has been settled out of court. As part of the agreement, reached last week, the station, WPIX-TV, Channel 11, did not admit blame, and the amount of the settlement was not disclosed, said Christine M. Bae, a lawyer for the couple. In November 2001, a WPIX reporter, Polly Kreisman, above, depicted a Sullivan County farm operated be the couple, Ju Ho and Roslyn Kim, as supplying domestic dog meat to an “underground market.” A spokeman for the station confirmed the settlement and would say only that the station’s report was accurate in its depiction of the meat as a mix of dog and coyote.
